- START GR 963504 -
Car Park in Blanchland - Turn left out of the car park and climb up towards Pennypie House. G through the gate trending right and cross the moorland until you reach a gate into the forest . Turn left inside the forest and after about 500m take a faint track left which leads to a gate back onto the moor.
- Keep straight on for about 1km to a track. Straight over the track for another 1km. Fork left leaving Carriers way and head over Birkside Fell.
- Follow this track down to the road. Go straight over forking right after the river. Follow the tarmac road past Townfield for another 3.5km.
- At a bend in the road turn sharp left onto a bridleway leading over the top of Bolt’s Law.. Stay on the track and descend to tarmac. Turn left for 850m then fork right onto a clear bridleway. Follow this past Chop Hardy all the way to Edmundbyers
- Just before Edmundbyers turn left onto the road which is followed as it contours round Derwentdale back to the start.

Hard Route
Not a long route to merit this grade, but the climbs are sustained and the terrain variable. Best done after a dry spell in the summer
