- START GR 331347 Cross Roads by phone box in Traquair (small car park)
- Follow signpost for Southern Upland Way. Climb steadily into forest then for another 300m to junction with forest track. Go straight across along the SUW climbing steeply up to a high point below Minch Moor. Keep straight on at next x-roads to a fork at (380328). Keep left and follow a switchback track for 5.6km to the trig point on Three Brethren (432319).
- Turn right beyond the cairns and descend stony ground for 1km. At this point the SUW turns left into forest. Instead turn sharp right and descend W to a burn then SW over a col followed by a steep descent to Broadmeadows (forking left at woods) to reach the A708 at (417298)
- Turn right along the A708 for exactly 1km. Turn first right after the phone box onto the Minchmoor road.
- A steady and at times very steep climb for 3.5km (seems to last for ever) leads back to the fork at the edge of the forest (380328)
- Turn left and retrace steps past Minch Moor summit and enjoy a fast downhill cruise back to Traquair. (makes all the climbing seem worthwhile)

Excellent route. Well worth it even though a 6km section is repeated in the reverse direction
