- START GR 787943 Car Park at Crinan Lock
- Head SSW up the hill from the car park. Turn left and follow the road down to the B841 and along by the side of the canal to the turn off for Tayvallich (798926)
- Turn towards Tayvallich and follow the road for 3km to (782914). At this point a forest ride signed Ardnose Cycle route goes off to the left. Take this track climbing and contouring before emerging above Crinan with marvellous views North and across to the Jura.
- Keep following the waymarked trail which follows the line of the coast (though with few viewpoints) until it turns into a tarmac track at Carsaig Bay (737879)
- Turn left to Tayvallich and refreshment. From here follow the road back along the loch edge until you reach the point at which you left it earlier. Continue for 2 more km then turn right at Loch Barnluasgan and follow this road for 4km. The road leaves the edge of Loch Sween and climbs up towards Seafield Farm. At the apex of a hairpin bend (780879) another well waymarked track leads into the forest.
- Follow this track which is well signed and heads NE for 5km before veering right parallel to the Crinan Canal and emerging onto the B481at (823909). Turn left and cross the canal at the first lock gates to join the towpath along the North side of the canal. Follow this all the way back to Crinan
