- START GR986278 Take the narrow lane opposite Wooler Church. Parking on road side.
- Head East along the road. Just before the last house, turn left up a lane to Waud House (984277). At the house go through a gate onto the common and take the obvious path along the fence then ascending to the right over the common. On reaching the plantation take the higher gate and fork left. There are many paths here keep to the left on high ground. Eventually the track descends and Wooler Common farm is seen ahead.
- Keep left of the farm and follow bridleway signs heading WSW along a track past trees and across open land (very boggy near the end) to reach a wicker gate into the forest at (962260)
- Descend the narrow path and follow the valley floor to a footbridge (delightful). Cross the bridge and keep on WSW up a steep carry before the gradient eases. Go through a gate to meet an access road at (945252) and follow this to Broadstruther. From here take an intermittent path heading due South through heather. Most of it is cycleable and it ascends gently to a broad col at (943233). Pick your way through the peat hags to a stile in the fence then descend keeping left above the burn to meet the Langleeford road at (955226) - Excellent
- You will see the next section of track opposite ascending the hillside. To join it head left down the road for 1km and turn right over a bridge. Climb strenuously up turning sharp left along the boundary fence at first heading across open moors to a gate at the forest edge (970210)
- Go through the forest and follow the blue arrows past Threestoneburn House to the access road. Follow this for 4.5km to Ilderton Moor. Turn left to Ilderton (017220) and left at the x-roads onto an old road. This leads to a ford (take it at speed, you get wet anyway). When the track meets the tarmac again turn right then left to North Middleton. Go through a second ford (or use the bridge) and follow the road to the outskirts of Wooler. Just before the first house on the left turn right up a walled track which leads back to the start.
