- START GR 919063 Car Park in Alwinton Village.
- Turn left out of the car park and cycle back to the village green. Cross the footbridge directly opposite onto Clennel Street. Turn left up the lane to a gate. Starting riding again after the gate is the hardest part of the route. Climb steadily for 3km to the ruins at Wholehope (902093)
- Keep straight on into the forest and continue on the main track. After leaving the forest follow the edge to a gate and fork at (893117). Fork left and descend to forest then fork left onto Border Country Ride. Follow to gate at forest edge (879128).
- Descend diagonally into valley to reach a wall and sheepfold. Cross stream, turn left and climb/push up to ridge at (875137)
- Follow track over top of fell leading back to gate at forest edge (874129). Follow a difficult rutted path S through forest. Cross footbridge to reach disused farmhouse at Fairhaugh.
- Continue S and follow single-track along East bank of stream. This becomes a farm track which leads to Shillmoor (886077). Turn left in front of the farm keeping North of the River Coquet. A deeply rutted track leads to a steep climb over Pass Peth (895073). Supposedly cycleable but not by me!
