• START GR 919063 Alwinton Car Park
• Turn left from the car park and follow the road for 300m to a signed turn to Clennell Hall. Turn left and follow the road alongside the river and past Clennel Hall to (926073). Stick to the forest access track for another 4.5km (917113)
• At this point turn back on yourself as a track leads sharp right and climbs steeply up past Milkhope. At the bend level with Milkhope zig-zag right then left until the forest ride levels out.
• Follow the undulating ride for 4km to a sharp bend at Cushat Cleugh (923132). Begin to descend bearing left at the first junction, then enjoy a fast descent back to the valley bottom.
• Continue past (917113) where the climb up began until (917105) where a track right leads over several fords and follows White Burn for over 2km before ascending very steeply past Whiteburnshank (899122) to a junction with Clennell Street. (893117)
• Follow Clennell Street past Wholehope (ruin) (901093)  all the way to Alwinton and back to the start.
