- START GR033918—Car Park in Castle Bolton
- Turn right out of the car park and follow the track through several gates. The route swings left along a grassy track after 2.5km and gradually trends to the West as it contours round to the old mine workings above Woodhall.
- After the mines, ford a stream and ride along walled track. After 300m go left through a gate and turn right through fields to join the end of a lane at (964917) Go along this to join a tarmac road at (954922)
- Follow the road (steeply up at first) then in and out of a small valley for 5km to the first waymarked track on the right (983965)
- Climb steadily up past the disused mine. Just before the crest, turn right through a gate to join the “Apedale Road”. Keep straight on SE past more disused mine workings to a X-roads of tracks at (031942)
- Turn right across the stream. Climb and then descend for 1km. The main track bends left and 300m after this the right of way leaves the track so fork left and follow a faint bridleway across the fields before rejoining the main track at (035922).
- Follow this walled section down to the road and turn right to return to the car park.
