- START GR745693 Car Park in Clapham
- Leave the car park and turn right and right again to follow the river for 250m to the bridge. Cross the bridge, turn right then left, cross a junction to reach a road at (743696). Bear right and after 300m fork left onto a bridleway leading to Newby. At the road junction turn right into Newby Cote (732706)
- Turn left and follow the road for 4km to the B6255 (700730). Turn left towards Ingleton, but turn right after 250m. Pass the church and immediately after the river turn right and climb up towards Twisleton.. At (699745) fork left past Twisleton Hall to a bridleway up Scar End
- Climb steeply up and then sharply right at a junction to follow the clear path leading over Scales Moor. Stay on this direction to Ellerbeck (731784) then continue on past several farm buildings to Ivescar (747798)
- Turn right and descend to Winterscales Beck to meet the B6255 at (751781). Turn left and follow the B-
road for 2km. Turn right along B6749 for 5km . 1km after Selside turn right onto a bridleway and drive. Follow the drive, forking right onto a track after 200m. After 450m more turn left and climb up to a plateau, passing through several gates. Contour between limestone outcrops to a signed junction of paths. (777735) - Keep straight on through a gate and alongside a wall. At a fork, aim for the cairn ahead keeping straight on to the top of Long Scar. Trend right to descend into Trow Gill (758717) going through two gates to join Long Lane, a walled Lane and good descent.

junction and turn left along Thwaite Lane to arrive back at the start.
