- START GR 124698 Car Park on the Nidderdale Way alongside Gouthwaite Reservoir
- Follow the edge of the reservoir NW to Ramsgill. Fork left at the York Hotel onto a Bridleway and follow this grassy track. After 1.5km the track climbs. Stay on it past various farm buildings to a junction at (097731).
- Turn right and descend past the camp-
site, turning right over a bridge. Take the next left and climb up to Middlesmoor (092742). Keep straight on through the village onto a track which climbs NW over the moor before descending to Scar House Reservoir (065766) - Turn right to the dam, and cross it . 100m after the dam turn right onto Widderdale Way which leads to a steep sided valley at (079778). Stay on the track to a shooting box, then climb up to join a clear bridleway. Turn right on this and follow it as it contours to a junction at (110768). Keep straight on at the high point until the track bears left to a tarmac road at (113750)
- Turn left, and after 130m right onto a track which climbs up to a fork. Fork right and descend keeping right past a wooded area to a T-
junction at (135718) - Turn right and descend to a cross roads in Bouthwaite. Turn left onto a disused railway line and follow it for 4km to the road at Wath.
- Turn right over the river and then right again to follow the road along the reservoir and back to the start.
