OS Landranger map52
Real mountain biking in some wild, but accessible terrain. Awesome climbing and rocky descents
- START Car Park at the end of Loch Tay GR772458
- Leave the car park and head north east along the valley following a monor road to meet the B846 after crossing the bridge at (787487)
- Turn left on the B846and fork left onto a minor road after 1km. Cross the bridge at Kettneyburn and turn the track which climbs parallel to the B846 towards Garth Cotte (763503). Left fork here and continue to climb across open moor following the stream to the site of Pheiginn Bothy. Phew!
- Carry on up the track and then contour round to the west. When the track becomes indistinct keep on contouring until eventually the Glen More Bothy (711527)can be seen. (quite a bit of bike carrying in this section!)
- Turn sharp left at the bothy and follow the trail to the saddle by Meall Crumach before careering downhill to Fortingall. It is worth diverting 600metres to the church where you can see the oldest living vegetation in Europe (reputedly). It is rumoured that Pontious Pilot climbed in the branches of the Yew tree.
- From Fortingall follow the minor road to (723458) then turn sharply left up the forest road. Turn right onto the fire access road which climbs first, then contours round Drummond hill for 5.5km. Two Z bends, right then left lead back to the start.
