An easy family ride of only 9km with no hills. Very suitable for young children.
Additional strenuous loop well worth the effort
- START 152656 Newburn Centre
- Head due West, first along the road, and later along the disused railway line that runs parallel to the river.
- Follow this track all the way to Wylam ((119646).
- Cross the river by the road bridge, and turn immediately left onto a riverside track which follows the opposite bank of the river back towards Newburn
- When you reach Newburn Bridge (164652), cross the bridge and turn left onto the disused railway path which can be followed back to the centre.
- ***Extra strenuous additional loop.
- From GR 144656 turn north through the farm yard, and follow Station Road past Heddon Hall right up into Heddon Village (Phew!!)
- Continue up past the Church, and follow the road to join the B6528 beside the Three Tuns Pub
- urn left and follow the B road for 100 metres. After the last house on the left, go through two small gates to enter the woodland. Follow the singletrack keeping the housing estate to your left. Evenually begin an exciting descent through the common to meet a track at (126663). At the bottom of the track turn left and follow it to and across the golf course, to rejoin the river route.
