- START GR 191131 B1340/B6341 Junction—Alnwick Town Centre
- Follow the B1340 from Alnwick to Denwick (nice view of Alnwick Castle from the bridge over the Aln)
- Cycle along the lane from the church, which soon bears right and descends into and then up out of a dip (often muddy). Continue up to the A1068.
- Turn left on the A-road and take the first farm track right which leads to the stepping stones at Hawkhill (216118) Do not cross here after heavy rain. Climb up after the crossing and follow the track to a minor road at Greenrigg (217112). Turn right and continue to follow the track to 214102 (minor road)
- Turn left along the road and take the first track to the right towards Bilton Barns. After the farm go straight on along the fence. At the end of the track turn left and ride across the fields to Wooden Farm (234096) and then by tarmac to meet the A1068.
- Follow the A-road right for 500 metres then turn down a stony track towards the sea. Turn right and follow the track parallel to the shore behind the dunes. After the caravan site join the A1068 into Warkworth.
- After the castle turn off the A-road where it turns sharp left (247056) and follow the minor road for1km before turning right and first left towards the caravan site (234049) If the river is in spate ignore the ford, cycle back up the hill for 200 metres and take a track which leads to a bridge across the river. Follow minor roads from the caravan site past Hart Law (202062) and South Moor to reach the A1 at (174075)
- Go across then A1 onto a farm track which is followed to Shiel Dykes (150062). Turn right after the farm and climb up on another farm track. At the quarry turn left and follow the cycle route signs to Freemans Hill (152085)
- Join the tarmac road, and turn right at Hadwin’s Close. Steep Hill up and on the following downhill take the first left. Follow this road to the B6341, turn right and cycle down to Alnwick town centre. Return through the main street to the start.
