OS Landranger map 110 Sheffield & Huddersfield
A first class route with some interesting sections. At the top end of its grade.
- START GR 034907 Car Park North of Grouse Inn on A624
- Turn left along the A624 and turn right onto a minor road 250m after the inn. Follow this for 1.2km then turn left opposite Plainsteads Farm, and left again after 100m. After 600m the road bends right, but we continue over a stile onto a faint bridleway.
- Follow this to a junction near Blackshaw Farm. (025889). Enter the field via a gate and go diagonally across to join a good lane which is followed to a staggered junction at (024874).
- Straight across and descend to the minor road. Turn left and climb to the A6015. Turn right for 250m to a turning which climbs left past some quarry workings. Continue on this line to a junction at (021847)
- Turn left here and climb to a T-
junction. Turn left and follow the track round (right at fork) to Hills Farm and on down to the A624 at (048850) - Turn left then right on to a track carrying straight on at the x-
roads of tracks to descend steeply down to Coldwell Clough. Turn sharp right at the bottom and climb back out of the valley bearing left and climbing to a marked bridleway at (066861) - Turn left and contour round Kinder End. Go through a gate and follow the wall to a stile. Turn left and follow the track down to the woods keeping left before descending to Kinder Reservoir (053880)
- Turn right and left at the gates an d climb steeply before a sharp left through a gap in the wall. Continue to climb taking the left fork at each of two junctions. Eventually the moors level out. Contin ue to follow the track all the way to the A624 at (034894)
- Turn right along the A-
road for 1.5km back to the car park.
