- START GR875166 Car Park on A286 South of Midhurst
- From the car park head due West along the South Downs Way, climbing steeply up Cocking Down. After 2km turn right onto a tack lined with hedges. Descend this trending right along the ridge to a T-
junction at (872172) - Turn left to meet the road, then right under the disused railway bridge to Cocking (878177). Cross the A286 and follow the lane round the church to a fork at (898175). Turn right and climb to rejoin the South Downs Way at (904165)
- Turn left and follow the Way for 4km past two major junctions to a third x-
roads at (937160). Turn right . Go straight on after 2km to reach a walled track leading down to East Dean - Turn right into the village, then right after the phone box. Follow the road to Charlton
- Turn right at the crossroads (888131) for 1.3km. Turn left then bear immediately right and climb to a 4-
way junction at (889146). Take the most right track and descend to Burntoak Gate. Keep straight on into the forest and follow the bridleway for 1.6km keeping straight on at several junctions to meet the South Downs Way at (894165) - Turn left and follow this route all the way back to the start.
