- START GR 509877 Small parking area at Sneck Yate
- From the car park head SW down a minor road for 200m. Just after the steep bend cut across left through a gate to join a track which forms part of the Cleveland Way. Follow this for 2.5km to a signposted bridleway left to Old Byland. Take this along the edge of a field to meet Cleveland Road at (515860)
- Go straight across down Wethercote Lane for 1.5km to a gate and signposted bridleway on the left. Take this alongside the field edge. After a while the track becomes narrow and steep and leads to a boggy area with a wooden bridge. Carry straight on very steeply up trending right and then left to reach tarmac at (536875).
- Turn sharp right along the road and follow it to an excellent ford (deep water level bottom). Continue for 200m to a gate on the left. Go through the gate onto a soft muddy grassy track which leads to a gate above Tylas Farm (some pushing required). Turn left past the farm and continue up to Barnclose Farm. (566871). Turn left and up steadily taking the right fork after 130m. At a gate bear left then right heading for a building. After the building hug the edge of the wood along a delightful singletrack which leads to a minor road at (538883)
- Turn right down Murton Bank descending steeply to Hawnby Bridge, then the right steeply up to Hamnby Village. Turn right at the top and take the first left for 1.6km to an obvious junction and flat area (540917). Turn sharp left and follow the track down to Hill End House. Just before the house turn right through a small gate. Head across the field to a gate then trend right to another gate. Turn left to follow the fence to the woods. Descend a steep track to a bridge over the stream then climb up to a track trending left to New Hall (531905)
- Turn right up the road to Arden Hall. Where the tarmac ends keep straight on up a track which climbs steadily before emerging onto open moor. Keep on through the gate to join the Cleveland Way at (489914)
- Turn left along the Cleveland Way and follow it speedily back to the car park at Sneck Yate
