• START GR 037993 Reeth
• Head SW on the B6270 to Grinton. Cross River Swale and go straight on up minor road past church. Turn right at (046977) towards Redmire. Climb steeply for 1.6km then take BW right up to summit cairn of Greets Hill (028957)
• Head due S down a stony track to a cross roads in valley bottom. Turn right and climb on a wide and steepening track to Apedale Head (000954). Turn left at fence, then right, then left again to join original line. Bear slightly left and join a gravelly track descending to disused mine workings at (986960).
• Turn right onto a new track (not marked on OS Map) and contour past a cairn, ruin and bridge to a wooden hut. (010972)
• Keep straight on for 300m then fork left onto a good track which winds down to the road at (020983) turn right and follow road back to Grinton. Turn left at the Church to return to the start.
